Hundreds of runners are expected to participate in an annual charity turkey trot on Thanksgiving morning in Brighton to help raise awareness and funding for multiple sclerosis research and support.

The 16th annual 5K road race sponsored by Boston Volvo Village of Brighton and led by dealership owner Ray Ciccolo will donate all proceeds to the Greater New England chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, said an event release.

The event will help fund MS education, support, advocacy, services and research to benefit the 19,000 people the society serves with the disease and their families in Maine, Massa-chusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, according to the release.

Over the years, the race has raised hundreds of thousands dollars through direct donations and from registration fees paid by runners who burn pre-Thanksgiving calories on the USA Track and Field-certified course through neighborhood streets.

Free long sleeve T-shirts are given to the first 750 entrants and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.

Registration is available to runners of all ages and abilities for $20 online before Nov. 26, or $25 on-site the morning of the race, the announcement said.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The race begins at 9 a.m., and its start and finish line is at the Boston Volvo dealership on North Beacon Street.
