Police have charged an Arlington man who allegedly struck a firefighter with his vehicle Friday after becoming upset about snow being shoveled from around a fire hydrant to the sidewalk in front of his home.
Leo Najarian, 59, of Varnum Street, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a vehicle.
Firefighters told police they were shoveling the snow from around the fire hydrants in the area at about 1:30 p.m. when Najarian approached the firefighters yelling and argued with them about the snow being shoveled onto his sidewalk, according to Arlington Police.
When firefighters told Najarian to leave the area, he got into his vehicle and backed into Lt. Brian Gerra, who was not seriously injured, according to a police. When police ordered Najarian to stop he fled the area, but was located a short time later and placed him under arrest.
