For the first time, the Boston Common's Frog Pond will host a Frog Appreciation Day with games and activities celebrating the pond's amphibious namesakes.

Presented in conjunction with Franklin Park Zoo, the Aug. 20 family-friendly celebration will have face-painting, live music, frog races, and arts and crafts tables where kids can make beanbag frogs.

Franklin Park Zoo staff will be on hand for an "interactive question and answer session all about frogs," and there will be a giveaway for children's tickets to the zoo.

According to the zoo, the purpose of the celebration is "to educate young people about frogs here and around the world, and the importance of protecting animal habitats."

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
