Boston Pops rehearsal offers preview of July 4 show
Thousands of patriotic spectators will pour onto the Charles River Esplanade Wednesday to celebrate Independence Day with the Boston Pops and and a dazzling display of fireworks, but for those who want the music without the crowds Tuesday will be the day of celebration.
While attendees will have to forgo the pop and bang of fireworks, they can hear the Boston Pops orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart perform a full dress rehearsal of on Tuesday, July 3, beginning at 8:20 p.m.
The US Navy Sea Chanters, Jennifer Hudson, Dropkick Murphys and cast members from MAMMA MIA! will also perform with the orchestra this year.
The early performance at the Esplanade’s Hatch Shell will end at 10 p.m. and will include the 1812 Overture, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. The Hatch Shell oval is set to open at 4 p.m.
A full program of the July 3 and July 4 shows is available here. A number of traffic and parking bans will be in effect throughout Boston, but the MBTA plans to boost service for the festivities.
