Two shade trees could be removed from Newbury Street to make way for a construction project.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a public hearing Tuesday, August 28, at 10 a.m. to consider the proposed removal of two two Callery pear trees at 375 Newbury St. in the Back Bay.

The trees, measuring four inches in diameter at breast height, are on the side of the property closest to Massachusetts Avenue.

The city’s Tree Warden, who will determine if the trees can be removed, will host the meeting at the Boston Parks and Recreation Department on the third floor of 1010 Massachusetts Ave.

Written comments can also be submitted to Boston Parks and Recreation Department, Attn: Back Bay Tree Hearing, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue 3rd Floor, Boston, MA 02118 by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 24.

The city will make a decision about the removal within two weeks of the hearing.
