Newbury Street getting facelift with help of Atlanta real estate company, New York Times reports

The New York Times this week reported on plans by Jamestown Properties, an Atlanta-based real estate firm, to remake Newbury Street.

The plans include "an expanded Chanel store and a Restoration Hardware outlet, and plans for a $500 million redevelopment of Copley Place mall.''

"Jamestown has brought in 10 new retailers, begun $4.7 million in renovations and plans to invest another $5 million in building upgrades in the next five years. The current construction will create 15,835 square feet of renovated retail space and 11 rental apartments for a total of 50 luxury residential units. In some of its 28 buildings, Jamestown is creating or refashioning entrances on the lower levels. The largest, most noticeable project is the 10-month rehabilitation of adjoining buildings at 234 and 236 Newbury Street due for completion in the coming winter.''
