Boston's most fashionable street will be busier than usual one night this week as musicians, local celebrities, and shoppers celebrate local businesses and fashion.
Fashion's Night Out, an international initiative designed to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, and boost the industry’s economy, will come to Newbury Street for the second year in a row on Thursday, Sept. 6, with a street party featuring musical performances, food and drinks, fashion shows, pop-up stores and lounges.
Newbury Street will be closed to traffic as shoppers take over the streets to celebrate and peruse special offers and win gifts from shops through the Back Bay,
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino will kick off the event at 6 p.m. at center stage where the bands Sweet Tooth & the Sugarbabies, Good Will & Them Apples, and Cosmodrome will perform.
A swanky 400-square-foot lounge complete with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be set up by San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels near the main stage at the corner of Newbury and Exeter streets so attendees can watch performances and fashion shows in style.
While no cars will be driving down Newbury Street, 80 luxury cars from Herb Chambers Companies will line the street to give shoppers a chance to see a variety of high-end concept cars, green cars, luxury vehicles, sports cars and more.
Each block will offer a different theme of cars on display, including Parking Friendly; Class, Style, Elegance; Adrenaline, For the Professional; A Little Extra Room; and Workhorses.
Three select vehicles will also be pulled from Herb Chamber’s own personal collection: the Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Daytona Spyder, and McLaren F1.
For those looking to shop a little earlier, Pop Inc. offering pop-up boutiques showcasing local and national fashions, accessories, and home and gift designers.
Starting at 3 p.m. a Pop Woman store will be set up at Co|So at 158 Newbury St. and a Pop Man will be open at Gold Gallery at 655 Tremont St.
