An Italian restaurant serving small plates, entrees, and wine on Newbury Street is expanding.

Piattini Wine Café is in the process of expanding the small space at 226 Newbury St. where it has operated for 12 years by transforming the space next door to become part of the restaurant.

The new space will allow create a larger dining room, and add a wine bar and private room, according to owner Josephine Oliviero Megwa.

The new space will also allow the patio sit 24 people, doubling the number of seats on the current patio.

The physical expansion will also bring with it an expansion of the restaurant's "small plates" menu and its wine and cocktail lists, Oliviero Megwa said in an e-mail.

The new space is expected to open at the beginning of November.

The restaurant's Facebook page has a photo of the work in progress and a rendering of the bar here.
