Fisher College is expanding its footprint in the Back Bay with the purchase of an Arlington Street building.

The four-year college that has operated in the Back Bay since 1939 announced Tuesday it has purchased 10-11 Arlington St. from the non-profit research organization Tellus Institute.

The new purchase will allow Fisher to provide faculty and staff offices and additional services and resources to students, the school said.

“The Back Bay is an important part of Fisher College’s legacy, as it has been the College’s home for over 70 years now,” Dr. Thomas M. McGovern, president of Fisher College, said in a statement. “We are excited to have acquired 10-11 Arlington Street and look forward to the new opportunities that the building will present to the Fisher community.”

The Tellus Institute and other non-profit tenants will rent space in the building for another two years as Fisher phases in its administrative offices.

The 17,000 square-foot building is located across from the Boston Public Garden and between Marlborough Street and Commonwealth Avenue.

Fisher also has instructional sites in Brockton, New Bedford, and North Attleborough.
