One man will be among the honorees at the 22nd annual Leading Women Awards presented by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino will be honored at the breakfast event as a Leading Man for his two decades as mayor of Boston, the Girl Scouts said in a statement.
Ruth N. Bramson, chief executive officer of the local Girl Scouts organization, said in the statement that the awards help establish models of leadership for its young members.
“Each year Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts honors remarkable leaders who have made a positive impact through their career and in the community,” Bramson said. “The Leading Women Awards is a way for our girls to meet great role models like Mayor Menino and for our supporters to learn how Girl Scouts is creating future leaders.”
Other honorees will be Helen G. Drinan, president of Simmons College; Denise Kaigler, senior vice president of corporate affairs and communications at Boston Scientific Corporation; Sheila Lirio Marcelo, founder and CEO of CARE.com; and Joyce Maroney, senior director of customer experience and services marketing for Kronos Inc.
In the statement, the Girl Scouts organization praised Menino for “his tireless work ethic and attention to the basics that make for a thriving city” as well has his efforts to create “partnerships to revitalize neighborhoods.”
The statement noted that Menino’s wife, Angela Menino, is a former Girl Scout.
