Five Beacon Hill residents have been named to the board of the Boston Landmarks Orchestra.
Jeff Makholm, Roger Snow, Richard Burnes, Kate Sides Flather, and Katherine Kane were named to the orchestra’s Board of Trustees and Overseers at the orchestra’s recent annual meeting.
As board members, they will serve as ambassadors for the orchestra and its mission of presenting free a concerts to diverse audiences in greater Boston during the summer.
“Our Trustee and Overseer Boards help to develop our audiences, collaborate with artistic partners and raise the funds needed to continue and expand our mission, both at our regular Hatch Shell summer performances and in Boston's neighborhoods and schools," Jeff Makholm, chair of the board of trustees, said in a statement.
Founded in 2001, the Landmarks Orchestra performs free concerts in public areas to make orchestral music more accessible to a wide range of Boston residents. It also collaborates with other artists during shows.
It has also worked to break down barriers for people with disabilities by ensuring their shows are easy to access.
The orchestra’s Landmarks Festival at the Shell hosts concerts every Wednesday night in July and August at Boston's iconic Hatch Shell, and this past summer saw audiences of more than 55,000. More than 5,000 children and their families also attended programs in neighborhoods across the city.
