The Friends of the Public Garden is launching a campaign for contributions to raise the $200,000 needed to complete the Brewer Plaza project on the Boston Common.

The Friends group, a non-profit that cares for the Boston Common, Public Garden, and Commonwealth Avenue Mall, said in blog post that it has received several matching challenge pledges to spearhead the campaign to raise the additional $200,000 to continue to improve the area of the Common at the corner of Park and Tremont streets.

Anne Brooke, president of the Friends, said in the post that challenge pledges of $200,000 each have been made by the Lynch Foundation and Barbara and Amos Hostetter have each made $200,000 challenge pledges, and the Friends’ Green and White Ball Committee has pledged $250,000.

The money will be used to complete the final phase of the Brewer Plaza Fountain Project, including the restoration of the historic fence along Tremont Street to create a landscape edge to the park. Contributions will be matched three-to-one, according to the post.

The first phase of the $4 million project refurbished fountain, restored the granite plaza, and created a vibrant gathering place with café tables and chairs, a food truck, live music, board games, and a reading area.
