Kenneth Gordon, of Bedford, won a write-in bid for the Democratic nomination for the 21st Middlesex House seat currently held by retiring Burlington Democrat Charles A. Murphy.

Fionda outpolled two other write in candidates, David Fionda and Virginia E. Mooney, both of Burlington, and Murphy, whose name appeared on the ballot even though he was not running.

The chairman of the Cultural Council and vice chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, in Bedford, Gordon picked up 40 percent of the vote to 32 percent for Murphy, and 26 percent for Fionda. Mooney received two percent, and Joseph Impemba, 2 percent.

“It’s a tremendous feeling. We all worked so hard and so many people pitched in,” said Gordon, an attorney. “I’m looking forward to the general election and to representing this entire district with the type of enthusiasm that we brought to this campaign.”
