Bill Kaplan of Newton achieved the No. 1 national ranking for squash in the 55+ age division for the 2009-10 season. A former world-ranked professional squash player in the 1980s, Kaplan is cofounder and chief executive officer of FreshAddress Inc., an e-mail database company based in Newton. He is best known as the cofounder and leader of the MIT Blackjack Team, which inspired the New York Times best seller ‘‘Bringing Down the House’’ and the 2008 movie ‘‘21.’’

Lesley Norman of Belmont has been named executive director of Filmmakers Collaborative, Inc. of Waltham. Norman, who has earned multiple program Emmy awards for the PBS series ‘‘NOW,’’ was most recently the vice president and chief operating officer of JumpStart Productions in New York.
