Average property tax bill to $460 in Belmont

Property taxes will increase by about $460 a year for the average single family home in Belmont, from $9,216 to $9,676, according to town assessor Dick Simmons,

The town received its tax certification from the state Department of Revenue earlier this month, Simmons said. The town will raise the rate from $12.16 to $13.24 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

Simmons said the the value of the average single family home in the town is down about 4 percent from last year, from $757,904 to $730,849.

Elsewhere in the region, Newton's average single family property tax bill is expected to rise $213, Lexington's will increase $307 and Arlington's will go up $170.
