A sewer blockage on the main line running beneath Lawndale and Payson Streets in Belmont caused sewage to spill into the streets on Monday afternoon, said DPW director Peter Castanino.
The blockage was repaired, and Castanino said there were no lingering problems.
"It's not an uncommon problem, and it didn't last long," Castanino said. "We took care of it as quickly as possible by relieving the blockage."
Castanino said three basements experienced sewage backup, as well as a few drains on the streets.
"As far as I know, there has been no damage," Castanino said.
