Sure, Mitt Romney may have been more concerned about winning in Ohio on Super Tuesday. But he can rest assured that he and his family also bagged a victory in Belmont’s Republican Town Committee election.
According to unofficial results, Romney was the top vote-getter among the 35 Republicans who ran for the 35 seats on the Town Committee. His wife Ann, son, Taggart, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, who were also vying for spots on the Belmont Town Committee, followed close behind in the vote count.
Town committee – Republicans, Democrats and the Green Rainbow party have them -- are designed to help elect members of their party.
Mitt and Ann Romney, who live in Belmont, have been on the Republican Town Committee since 2004. Taggart Romney and his wife, Jennifer, have been committee members since 2008, according to Belmont Town Clerk Ellen O’Brien Cushman.
Mitt Romney received 1,729 votes for Town Committee, slightly less than the 1,949 votes he got for the Republican presidential nominee, according to the results posted on Belmont’s website.
