Hurricane Sandy has yet to cause any major problems in Belmont, according to Belmont Police and the Municipal Light Department.

A dispatcher said that so far today, the phone has barely even been ringing. Police expect that as the wind picks up throughout the day, they’ll start getting calls about downed trees and branches, but it has been quiet so far.

The Belmont Municipal Light Department has so far not had any outages in town, said a spokeswoman.

Schools, town offices, the library and the Beech Street Center are closed today, but trash collection is happening as scheduled, according to the town website.
