Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann, will head to the polls in Belmont to cast their votes in Tuesday's election, his campaign announced today.

The pair will vote at the Beech Street Center in Belmont at 8:35 a.m., the campaign said. The event will be covered by a press pool.

Belmont police presented plans to town citizens last week on how they would handle with the crush of media and security that follows the Republican presidential candidate. At that point, the Romney campaign had not told the town he definitely planned to cast his vote in Belmont, where he lives.

Police said they will begin closing streets and putting up no parking signs late on Monday night on some roads around the Beech Street Center. Residents will still be allowed through, they said.

On Tuesday, Waverley Street from Beech Street to Harris Street will be closed to through traffic. There will be reserved areas for media and for voters.

“Whatever you believe or not, whatever your political affiliation is, I don’t see this as a bad thing for our town,” police chief Richard McLaughlin told the meeting. “He has every right to vote here as I do, as you do. And were gonna do this, and we’re gonna make it as normal as we can. So that everybody can enjoy their rights.”
