Belmont’s Town Meeting warrant is officially open as of 9 a.m. today.
Residents can add articles to the warrant by way of Citizen Petitions. There is no required paperwork to create a Citizen Petition, according to Town Clerk Ellen O’Brien Cushman. Residents simply write out their proposed article and round up the signatures of at least ten registered voters. It is recommended that petitioners collect at least 20 signatures in case some cannot be verified.
Petitioners can come to the Town Clerk’s office if they need advice on their article, said Cushman.
Citizen Petitions must be certified by the Town Clerk before they can be added to the warrant. Proposed articles are due by noon on Friday, March 1.
Town Meeting will begin on April 29.
Anyone with questions should call the Town Administrator’s Office at 617-993-2610.
