Ten seconds after the clock struck midnight Saturday, a Beverly Hospital doctor delivered what some are calling Massachusetts' first baby of 2011.
Dr. Lou Laz delivered Jeremiah Joel Navil on Jan 1. at 12 a.m. said Tina Ketchopulos, a spokeswoman for Northeast Health System.
"We're assuming that he was [the first baby] because he was born 10 seconds past" midnight, Ketchopulos said. "In our immediate area, he was the first."
The infant was born 20 inches long and 7 pounds, four ounces.
Navil's new family includes parents Yolinnet Colon and Damien Navil of Lynn, as well as two older sisters, Delilan, 6, and Yolivette, 2.
