The following was submitted by Beverly Hospital:

A new Ostomy Support Group will begin at Beverly Hospital on Wednesday, May 4th with an open house from 3:30 - 5 p.m.   The free support group will be held in the large conference room located at the Women's Health and Medical Arts Building on the campus of Beverly Hospital, 85 Herrick Street, Beverly.  The program will be facilitated by certified ostomy nurses from Addison Gilbert Hospital and Beverly Hospital.

An ostomy refers to the surgically created opening in the body for the discharge of body waste. The most common specific types of ostomies are colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy.

Those who have ostomies, their family and friends are invited to a free lecture on May 4th with Lisa Becker who underwent ileostomy surgery after suffering 15 years with Crohn's Disease.   In her desire to regain control of her life, and help others do the same, she developed ostomysecrets' undergarments for men and women.

All are welcome to attend the free support group.  Pre-registration is requested by calling 888-253-0800.  Walk-in guests are also welcome.
