Beverly schools ranked 89th out of 135 districts in the state, according to a recent survey by Boston Magazine.

The rankings used standardized test scores over time, class size, per-student spending, graduation rate, sports offerings, and Advanced Placement options.

Many of the top-tier districts follow a traditional pattern: small class sizes, healthy per-pupil spending, a high graduation rate, many sports offered, and options for Advanced Placement courses.

With 4,251 students and a pupil-to-teacher ratio of 14.2:1, Beverly graduates 86 percent of its students, offers 46 sports teams and 14 Advanced Placement courses.

The district also spends $12,259 per student and has half-day kindergarten.
