The following is a press release from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority:

(Boston, MA) – The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR) today announced temporary schedule adjustments to the Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail line beginning on Monday, November 21st.

The revised schedule is the result of routine bridge inspections by the MBTA, which ensure safe operation of commuter rail service. A recent inspection of the Saugus Drawbridge structure revealed structural issues that required immediate attention. Work was successfully performed last weekend (November 11th-13th) to improve travel across the bridge.

However, engineers have approved travel on a single track only (outbound side) on the drawbridge at a maximum speed of 30 mph. As a result, single track travel over the drawbridge will require a temporary schedule to address resulting conflicts between trains.
Service changes will be limited, with adjustments to the current schedule ranging between two and 10 minutes.

Schedules will be available to download and print from www.MBTA.com, and at the information booth at North Station on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 16th, 2011.
