Sue Gabriel.JPGSue Gabriel, Director of Beverly Bootstraps, accepts a check from Glen Urquhart School in the amount of $9,156.

The following was submitted by Glen Urquhart School:

Following a long tradition of community service, Glen Urquhart School in Beverly Farms continued the successful tradition of “Snowflakes” to benefit Beverly Bootstraps Food Pantry this year by raising $9,156.

The Snowflakes program is simple and very successful. In lieu of students presenting faculty and staff with presents, they consider buying Snowflakes.  Each Snowflake costs $2.00 and the funds collected through the sale of Snowflakes are donated to Beverly Bootstraps Food Panty in honor of the Glen Urquhart “GUS” faculty.  Glen Urquhart supports Beverly Bootstraps throughout the year, but this program gives everyone a chance to make a difference in the lives of others during the holiday season.  Beverly Bootstraps believes in providing “a hand up, not a hand out” and nearly all of their donations directly benefit Beverly residents and their families.  During the Winter Solstice Assembly on December 17th, a check from the Snowflake proceeds will be presented to Beverly Bootstraps.Students and parents can choose to buy as many Snowflakes as they want for each person indicated on the Snowflakes form.  Families with more than one child may also choose to purchase one Snowflake for a teacher under all of their childrens' names.

Glen Urquhart is excited about continuing this meaningful tradition.  The faculty and staff appreciate the recognition they receive and the children feel they are making a difference in the community.  The Snowflakes tradition is an especially creative and thoughtful way to celebrate and recognize the faculty and staff during the holidays.
