The following was submitted by Theatre of Light:
“MA, ONLY YOU!”, a one-woman comedy show, will have its world premiere on Tuesday, July 17th at 7:30 pm in the auditorium at Temple B’Nai Abraham in Beverly. As a fundraising event, all proceeds will be donated to the Theatre of Light for its summer and fall children’s theatre programs.
The show, written and performed by Miriam Eyges of Marblehead, is based on unusually comical events that have taken place in her life. Miriam began her theatrical career 40 years ago as an actress. Her first professional role was Dorothy in the “Wizard of Oz” at the Charles Playhouse in Boston. She furthered her career in New York performing off Broadway and in professional touring children’s and dinner theatres. For the past 35 years she has been producing and directing theatre productions in the North Shore and Boston area in addition to teaching children’s theatre workshops. “Ma, Only You” is the first time Miriam will be back on stage in 25 years. The title of the show is the exact words that Miriam’s son always says to her as he rolls his eyes and shakes his head in disbelief at the antics that she experiences.
Also performing in this fundraising event are several Theatre of Light young actors who will entertain the audience with Broadway songs and skits prior to the “Ma, Only You!” presentation. The youngsters performing, age 8 to 14, are Claire Coen, Elizabeth Tauro, and Tabi Varnia from Marblehead with Anna Coughlin of Swampscott, Katie Moloney of Salem, and Mariella Robinson from Beverly. Theatre of Light teen alumni, Paige Nally of Marblehead and Jake Lendall of Peabody, will also be performing.
The Broadway song portion of this event is suitable for children of all ages. However, “Ma, Only You!” is rated PG-13. During a few scenes, with the parents’ permission, children under the age of 13 will can join the theatre’s preteens who will engage the children with games in a separate room.
Suggested ticket donation is $10. For more info or reservations, call 978-210-9818.
