The following was submitted by the Beverly Council on Aging:
The Beverly Senior Center will be open on Thursday evenings this Fall in an effort to provide activities and services for older adults who are not able to enjoy the Senior Center during its' regular business hours of M-F, 8 - 4 p.m. According to Kendra Seavey, Activities Coordinator, "we are piloting a six week series of classes in the early evening in an effort to reach a segment of the older population who are still working or caring for grandchildren during the day. If we are successful, we will work towards offering more evening programs and events in our modern facility throughout the year."
MaryAnn Holak, Director of the Center jokes, "you know you are ready for a class at the Senior Center when you double your current age and realize you probably won't be alive at that new age." She continues, "seriously, our beautiful Center is open for those ages 60 and up and for some classes, there is no age restriction, you just need to be an older adult who wants to participate."
The activities slated to begin soon were selected to meet the needs of a diverse group of people with varied interests. They include: a Zumba exercise class and a Whole Body Strength and Stablity Training class for the exercise enthusiastss; a 6 week program, Charting Your Course, designed to give those recently retired or who are thinking of retiring, the planning tools and advice for living life to its's fullest during the "golden" years. A volunteer led writing group will inspire those who are writing the next great American novel or who just want some feedback and encouragement for their writer's craft. For the technologically challenged, a two-part FacebookBasics class will be offered.
Many of the classes above are slated to begin on Thursday, September 13th. Interested persons may contact Seavey at firstname.lastname@example.org or 978-921-6017. Interested persons may also stop by the Center on 90 Colon Street for a flyer and registration information.
