Police fielded a report of suspicious activity in North Beverly on Friday night regarding the bizarre calling-card that might belong to a peeping tom who has been spotted in the area in the past.
According to an item in the daily police log for November 9, a resident of Dartmouth Street reported that sometime over the prior two days a smiley face was drawn on the window of his car.
But according to the report, the act may have more significant meaning than simple vandalism.
The party felt he should report the incident, according to police, because his family has been victim to a peeping tom in the past, and neighbors tell him that the offender leaves a smiley face as his mark.
But the incident gets stranger.
Police took care to note in the report that "the smiley face looks like 'Stewy' [sic] from the cartoon, 'Family Guy.'"
Beverly police spokesman Officer Dave Costa was not immediately available to comment on possible suspects or what was used to draw on the victim's window.
