The city of Beverly is offering a holiday gift to everyone by allowing free two-hour parking at all metered spaces and municipal parking lots on certain days for the holiday season.

According to a statement from Tina Cassidy, the city's director of planning and development, cars can park for free for up to two hours at any on-or off-street metered spot Thursday through Saturday from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day.

Cassidy calls it "an effort to encourage shoppers to patronize local businesses during the holiday season."

According to Cassidy, this year's "holiday parking" schedule will remain consistent with that of years past, with meters and pay stations being enforced for stays longer than two hours, and handicapped spots and loading zones will be enforced as usual.

Time limits must be observed as posted in non-metered spaces.

"Employees of downtown businesses should continue to park only in the long-term sections of the off-street municipal lots," Cassidy said in a statement. "The first two-hours parking in these sections will also be free on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between Thanksgiving and New Years."
