Northeast HomeCare, based in Beverly, has been named one of the top 500 homecare agencies in the nation for the second year in a row.

The program, part of Northeast Senior Health, a division of Northeast Health System, was one of nine Massachusetts agencies named to the 2012 HomeCare Elite list, an annual review that identifies the top 25 percent of homecare agencies across the country.

The top 500 agencies are chosen based on patient experience, quality of care and financial management by the National Research Corporation and DecisionHealth. The full list can be found here.

"We are thrilled to be recognized among the 2012 HomeCare Elite for the high quality home care services we provide to residents throughout Northeastern Massachusetts," Dr. Donna Peters, RNC, executive director of Northeast HomeCare, said in a statement. "Our team works incredibly hard and delivers tremendous care to patients, while also maintaining efficiency and cost-effectiveness, qualities that are especially important in this era of health care reform and regulatory changes."

Northeast HomeCare has been operating since 2007, its team of registered nurses, therapists and varied specialists providing rehabilitation services to home-bound patients on the North Shore.

Massachusetts has eight other agencies that were also recognized in the top 500 this year:

South Shore Visiting Nurse Association (Braintree)

Lee Regional VNA, Inc. (Lee)

NVNA and Hospice (Norwell)

Chicopee VNA (Chicopee)

VNA of Cape Cod (Hyannis)

Acton Public Health Nursing SE (Acton)

Gentiva Health Services (Pittsfield)

Community Visiting Nurse Agency, Inc. (Attleboro)
