Lahey Hospital & Medical Center announced today it has acquired Essex VitreoRetinal Services, Inc. (EVRS) following the  pending retirement of EVRS founder Dr. William Stinson. The new name will be Lahey Retinal Specialists, Beverly.

Lahey Retinal Specialists, Beverly is located at 75 Herrick Street, Suite 215 on the campus of Beverly Hospital and provides a full range of advanced specialty care, including state-of-the-art diagnostics, digital imaging and surgery to patients with vitreoretinal diseases. This transition will bring no interruption to patients, as Lahey Hospital & Medical Center ophthalmology specialists will begin caring for patients as Dr. Stinson prepares to retire at the end of March.

“We’re incredibly excited about this opportunity and to continue the long tradition of high quality specialty care Dr. Stinson began when he founded his practice more than 15 years ago,” said Jeffery Marx, MD, Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer at Lahey Medical Center, Peabody. “Dr. Stinson has been a longtime community member and a physician extremely dedicated to his patients.  We’re honored to have the opportunity to join the Beverly community and continue to provide advanced specialty retinal care to patients locally and throughout the region.”

Leading the new practice will be Dr. Marx, who has been with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center since 1998, and Dr. Jeffery Chang, MD., a Lahey Hospital & Medical Center ophthalmology specialist with a focus in vitreoretinal surgery.

“I want to thank Lahey physician leaders for their hard work and dedication in bringing this partnership together,” said Peter Short, MD, and Chief Medical Officer at Beverly Hospital and Addison Gilbert Hospital.  “Dr. Stinson has been a tremendous leader and a gifted physician for many years. This new partnership with Lahey Hospital & Medical Center ophthalmologists at our Beverly Hospital campus will help us continue our mission of delivering top quality care locally in the community.”
The Specialists at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center are board certified in ophthalmology and recognized by the American Society of Retina Specialists for their contributions to the advancement of vitreoretinal surgery. Lahey Hospital & Medical Center specialists have also participated in clinical research to prevent blindness, in addition to the formal Ophthalmologic education of medical students, residents and fellows.
