Beverly police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Monday night at a Dunkin Donuts on 188 Cabot St.

According to Officer Mike Boccuzzi, police responded around 6:50 p.m. to a call about a man who carried a black bag into the store, threw it at the clerk and said, "Fill it."

The suspect said he had a knife, but never showed one.

Prior to approaching the clerk, he also told patrons in the store to get on the ground.

The clerk looked at him, then walked out back and called the police. At that time the suspect grabbed the bag back, ran out of the store and up Broadway Street.

No money was taken from the business.

The suspect was described as white, in his mid 20s, approximately 5 feet 8, wearing a black jacket with red stripes down the length of the sleeves, a green stocking cap, sunglasses, dark jeans and purple gloves.

The Beverly Police Department asks anyone who has information regarding this incident to call the police station at 978-922-1212, or submit a tip online at www.beverlypd.org/webtips.html or through the Beverly Police MyPD smartphone application.
