Beverly police, along with detectives from the Danvers and Peabody police departments, have arrested a man following an investigation into two burglaries that took place at Desjardins Jewelers in Beverly last year.

According to an announcement from the Beverly Police Department, detectives arrested James Ray Radler,51, early Saturday morning at the Knights Inn on Route 1 in Danvers on a temporary warrant for two felony counts of breaking and entering at night and destruction of property over $250.

The Desjardins Jewelers burglaries occurred on December 23, 2012 and January 1, 2013. In both instances, a barbell was used to smash the front window and gain entry, the announcement said.

According to Beverly police, Radler is also connected to approximately 15 similar “smash and grab” style burglaries that occurred on the North Shore and throughout New England, as well as in New York.

Radler has been connected to criminal activity as far west as Minnesota, and is wanted in Idaho, Vermont and Washington.

These burglaries have occurred over a period of approximately nine months. The estimated value of jewelry and merchandise stolen is $460,000.

Radler was arraigned on Monday in Salem District Court and pled not guilty. Judge Michael Lauranzano ordered Radler to be held on $750,000 cash bail and he is scheduled to return to court on July 8 for a pre-trial hearing.
