The City of Beverly is slated to kickoff it's annual Homecoming celebration with over a week of festivities planned, making it the largest event in the city. This will be Beverly's 48th Homecoming.

The 10-day event starts on Friday August 2 and wraps up on Sunday August 11.

The lobster festival, which is dubbed as one of Homecoming's highlights, will be held on Wednesday August 7 at Lynch Park from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Local businesses will have the opportunity to set up tables at the lobster festival to showoff and give a taste of their products.

Homecoming started in 1966 with merely a handful of events to draw people to downtown Beverly, but has since expanded into a 10-day celebration with over 80 activities, said Bruce Doig, president of Beverly Homecoming.

"Every section of the city is doing something," Doig said. "It's a great way to expose not just the city, but other people that haven't been to Beverly in a while, or haven't been there at all."

The Beverly Recreation Department is also sponsoring an abundance of events including the Beverly Yankee 5K Road Race, Airport Day, which includes tours of planes at Beverly Airport, a baseball tournament, art shows, hot air balloon rides, tours of Hospital Point Lighthouse, and many more.

The 10-day celebration will wrap up on Saturday August 10 with fireworks at dusk at Lynch Park.
