Several Beverly residents lost power this morning after a contractor inadvertently dropped a branch on a power line, according to a spokesperson from National Grid.

The issue has since been resolved.

Approximately 3,600 residents lost service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:41 a.m. The outage occurred on Elliot Street, Conant Street and McKay Street in the Ryal Side neighborhood.

Beverly resident Mitchell McKinnon, 21, who lives on Kernwood Avenue, said he heard a "surging" noise as the power went out.

"Actually it was more of an electrical sound I heard while I was cooking breakfast," McKinnon said. "I hope we upgrade our grid system to a smarter grid."
