'Mayor's Family Day' postponed to Friday
The first Mayor's Family Day has been postponed until Friday, Aug. 6, due to the threat of thunderstorms.
The event had been planned for Aug. 5. Weather permitting, it will happen from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 6, with all sorts of free activities, at the French’s Common ballpark next to Town Hal.
The six neighborhood playgrounds will be closed for the day so the town’s recreation staff can help with games and events at the family-oriented event.
Kids should wear bathing suits, since there will be water games. Families should bring blankets or lawn chairs.
Among the planned activities: an inflatable bounce house, face painting, dancing, music, and a disc jockey, as well as free hot dogs, ice cream, cold drinks, and snacks.
“We want to bring all the kids with their parents to this one end of the summer family fun day event and keep everyone involved,” said Mayor Joseph Sullivan. “We hope to make [this] an annual fun-for-all event for our families to look forward to, before the summertime ends and it’s back to school for our kids.”
