Police are investigating the theft of two handguns in a break-in on Sagamore Street in Braintree on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the homeowner reported that the home was unoccupied between 1 and 4 p.m. When he came home, he found that his 9-mm Walther P99 and a .22 caliber Beretta Tomcat had been stolen.

In addition to the stolen guns, the homeowner reported that a Macbook Pro laptop, a Playstation 3 gaming console, some money and jewelry was stolen.

Entry is believed to have been through the rear door, police said.

Police are still investigating the crime.
