Summer is bringing not only warm-weather clothes and beach paraphernalia to the South Shore Plaza, but more retailers.

Already, Lids Locker Room has opened on the upper level near Nordstrom, selling sport, fashion, and collegiate hats.

It’s only one of a few stores to come to the plaza this season, something mall officials are excited about.

“The summer is always a fun shopping season and we are thrilled to offer such a diverse shopping experience at South Shore Plaza,” said Cindy Kernan, senior vice president of leasing at Simon Property Group, which owns the mall. “We welcome these new retailers and see great success for them here at the ‘Gateway to the South Shore’.”

In addition to the Lids franchise, three other retailers are slated to open in August.

The North Face will also be located on the upper level near Nordstrom. Selling “authentic and technically innovative products”, North Face is focused on retail for outdoor equipment, accessories and apparel.

Marbles: The Brain Store, also plans to open in August, selling a collection of hand-picked and creative toys for a healthier brain for all ages.

According to a South Shore Plaza press release, the store is designed with a hands-on feel so that the customer can test the games, solve puzzles, try software, and flip through books designed to enhance learning and thinking. The store will be located in the upper level near Nordstrom.

Red Mango, an all-natural nonfat frozen yogurt brand, is also slated to open next month.

Tangy, frozen treats mix with fresh toppings to create a desserts that now are available only at the Hingham Shipyard off 3A.

The food is perfect for the health-conscious consumer looking for a sweet, cold summer treat, a release said.

The stores join a number of other recent additions to the mall, including Sur La Table, beb, Lucky Brand, LOFT, Soma Intimates, A/X Armani Exchange, Swim n’ Sport, J’Adore, 77kids, and Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse.

Newbury Comics has also relocated to the lower level near Sears.

“We’re looking forward to another busy and fun-filled summer at the Plaza,” said South Shore Plaza Director of Mall Marketing Vicki Bartkiewicz. “I’m sure our shoppers will be pleased with these new stores and dining destinations they find as they visit us throughout the season.”
