Police will seek charges against a 37-year old man from Braintree after he allegedly fled the scene of a car accident early Monday morning.

According to police, officers were called to Storrs Avenue on Monday after a gray or silver pickup truck jumped the curb and crashed into a utility pole, shearing it from the ground.

The truck then allegedly swerved across the road, crashed through a fence, and struck a house, damaging the foundation and utility box, police said.

According to a witness, the operator spun his tires to dislodge himself from the building, damaging the lawn in the process. He then turned his lights off and fled down Storrs Avenue.

The truck suffered heavy damage and in the process of the crash, lost its front license plate.

Police traced the plate number to an address on Pond Street. The pickup was discovered a short time later, unoccupied, on Franklin Street.

Officers went to the man’s home, but were told he wasn’t at home.

On Tuesday, officers contacted the man’s insurance to find that he had filed a claim inconsistent with the police investigation. The insurance company then contacted the man, who called police.

The man will be charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and operating to endanger.
