A Braintree woman was arrested on Thursday after allegedly shoplifting from the Marshall’s on Pearl Plaza and then hitting a store employee with her car door.

According to police, a 66-year old and a 46-year-old Braintree woman came into the store with 16-year-old and 10-year-old children.

The group proceeded to select various items of merchandise from the racks and walk around the store, police said. When the group got to the back of the store, the people allegedly began stuffing the merchandise into a handbag that the 66-year-old suspect was carrying.

The group then proceeded to exit the store where they were confronted by store employees. When the employees asked the women to come back into the store, the suspects refused.

The 66-year-old got into her Ford Explorer while refusing to come back into the store. She then allegedly struck the employee with her car door.

As the suspect backed out of her parking space, she came close to striking the employee with her vehicle.

Officers later responded to the home of the suspect and placed her under arrest.

Ethel L. McLaurin, 66, of Braintree was charged with shoplifting – second offense, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.

The other woman and the two young girls will be summonsed to court for alleged shoplifting. Their names have not been released as they have not yet been charged with a crime. The two young girls’ names won’t be released as they are juveniles.
