Braintree Scanner Tales: Alleged drunk driver; road rage incident
Man faces charges of intoxication while driving
Braintree police are seeking charges against a 42-year-old man from Dorchester after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and got into an accident in the town last week.
According to Braintree police, a police officer was traveling behind the suspect’s Chrysler Sebring on Tuesday morning at around 1 a.m. when he saw the vehicle veer off the road and strike a large tree.
The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, deployed the airbag, and left the car smoking, police said.
Officers removed the suspect from the vehicle. He was later transported to South Shore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
While at the hospital, officers made observations that lead them to believe the suspect was under the influence, police said. As a result, the man will be summonsed to court on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol and failing to keep within marked lanes.
The name of the suspect has not been released as he has not yet been charged.
Road rage incident reported
A 27-year-old man from Weymouth said he was threatened on Tuesday afternoon after a motorist allegedly pointed a knife at him.
According to police, the victim said he was driving on Peal Street on Tuesday when he allowed a motorist into his traffic lane. Suddenly, a second vehicle pulled alongside him and began yelling at him for the gesture to the first motorist.
Police said that words were exchanged between the two men when the irate driver allegedly raised a knife and pointed it at the Weymouth man. The unknown motorist then drove toward the MBTA station.
Police could not locate the motorist but are continuing to investigate the incident, police said.
