In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Braintree officials will again put pink-colored lights in the shape of candles in the front windows of Town Hall during October.

In its fourth year, the gesture is meant to show support for those who are struggling through the disease or know someone who is, officials said.

“The candles show our solidarity with those who are fighting this terrible disease as well as with their families and friends” Mayor Joseph Sullivan said, “Over the past 20 years the Breast Cancer survival rate has grown a great deal, and we can be thankful for that, but also be mindful that we are not to 100% yet and we must continue to spread awareness.”

The event is in conjunction with a monthly newsletter that the town’s Human Resources office sends out to all employees, detailing information from the American Cancer Society about latest cancer research and awareness.

Sullivan encouraged those in the town to also visit the Society’s website to find the latest in cancer research and offer support for those who are currently battling cancer.
