Filene’s Basement will get a makeover over the next few months as the South Shore Plaza prepares to welcome Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) to the mall next spring

Among its many locations in eastern Massachusetts, DSW already has stores at The Village at Colony Place in Plymouth, Wareham Crossing in Wareham, RK Plaza in Stoughton, Downtown Crossing in Boston, and at Dedham Mall in Dedham, making this location the first for the Hanover-to-Quincy region.

“We couldn’t be happier to add DSW to our shopping mix as not only another shoe store option, but another family-friendly shopping option that offers something for everyone,” said South Shore Plaza Director of Mall Marketing Vicki Bartkiewicz. “We’re also thrilled to be filling the former Filene’s Basement space with such a popular store known for its great deals and discounts,” she added.

The shoe store is the latest to be added to the mix at the South Shore Plaza. This past year, The Art of Shaving, Pinkberry, Love Culture, and Wasabi, along with a newly renovated J.Jill joined the mall.

For the holidays, The Christmas Tree Shops, located in the former Crate & Barrel in Level 1, will be operating.

Most recently, Plaza officials welcomed in Tilly’s, a West Coast surf and skate apparel store that will be opening in mid-November.

Started in California in 1982, the store has grown to 159 stores in 20 states, and each is designed differently to create a unique shopping experience for customers, mall employees said in a release.

Announced in late October, the Plaza location and an opening at the Northshore Mall are the first locations for Tilly’s in New England.

“We are thrilled that Tilly’s will be opening its first locations in New England at Simon properties,” said Barney Quinn, Executive Vice President of Leasing at Simon Property Group, in a release. “We know that Tilly’s will bring something fresh and new to South Shore Plaza and Northshore Mall.”

Dan Griesemer, Tilly's CEO, also expressed excitement to bringing his brand to the New England market.

Tilly’s will open on Level 2 of the plaza in the Nordstrom Wing.
