Weymouth man charged with OUI
A Weymouth man was arrested Thursday after allegedly driving under the influence and then falling asleep behind the wheel of his car.

According to police, a passing motorist called officers to say that the suspect had been stopped at the traffic light on John Mahar Highway near Plain Street for 10 minutes.

When officers approached, they found the suspect asleep behind the wheel with the transmission in drive.

After securing the vehicle, officers said they woke the suspect up. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated, police said, and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

Police had the suspect perform several sobriety tests before placing him under arrest.

Robert DiSalvio, 49, of Weymouth was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.

Teen injured in pedestrian accident
A Braintree teen was taken to the hospital after being struck by a car on Thursday morning.

According to police, the 14-year-old student was in a Union Street crosswalk at 7 a.m. Thursday when she was hit by a car.

The driver, a 51-year-old man from Braintree, told police that he swerved to avoid her and struck her with his side rear view mirror.

The teen was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

The operator, whose name has not been released as he was not charged with a crime, was cited for failing to stop for a pedestrian and having an obscured window.
