The South Shore Plaza has selected a fashion blogger for the summer, a new position they hope is an asset to the community while promoting brands and stores throughout the mall.

The Plaza is the latest Simon Mall to join in the "Style Setter Bloggers" venture, which takes a representative from the community to participate in blogging on the mall’s website.

Though new to Braintree, the initiative has been under way at many other local shopping centers, and so far has been going well.

“Our malls that were part of the pilot program (which included Burlington) integrated their Style Setter into on mall events, press opportunities, social media, and emails,” said Jenni Edwards, social media analyst for Simon Brand Ventures. “Not to mention – shoppers have responded well to the content, which is hyper local and relevant to their mall and city.”

A total of 40 malls will participate in the six-month program, which began this spring.

Of the over 700 applicants to try out for one of the blogging gigs, Elissa Garza was selected for the South Shore Plaza.

“We really [were] looking for someone who loves fashion and loves to share how they are pairing their finds from the mall,” Edwards said.

A Texan native, Garza currently lives in metro Boston and works in Cambridge.

To win, Garza had to submit a sample blog post to showcase her writing chops and fashion perspective. The mall’s Facebook fans then voted on the posts.

With the position secured, Garza has been blogging about summer trends, turning to shorts for her first topic, and a plan for Mom for her second post.

“There is a great appetite in the South Shore area for trend-based updates, tips, and retailer information, and I look forward to being a reliable resource,” Garza said in a release.

The hope of the blogs is to give shoppers tips of trends, insider information, style guidance, and updates on items available at the Plaza. Blogs are expected about five times a month.

“Style Setter bloggers” will also occasionally participate in store openings and even fashion shows at the mall.

Though unpaid, the job does come with a shopper stipend, organizers said.
