Two men were arrested in Braintree on Friday after allegedly trying to pick up a shipment of marijuana sent from California.
Braintree Police discovered the package, containing 10 pounds of marijuana, while it was on its way to a resident of Matthews Circle.
Braintree detectives, assisted by state troopers and postal inspectors, set up surveillance at the apartment complex and waited to see when the package would be picked up.
Police said one man picked up the package at the management office, put the package into the trunk of his car, and drove off. Another man was following close behind as the suspect picked up the delivery, police said.
Both men were stopped a short distance away.
Police said officers seized the marijuana along with $1,765 found in one of the suspect’s pockets.
Shawn M. Hillegrass, 33, of Braintree and Michael Topper, 29, of West Bridgewater were both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Substances Act.
