Brookline resident Robert Baart is displaying 13 of his abstract landscape paintings evoking images of foliage, water, and sky at the Brookline Arts Center, 86 Monmouth St. in Brookline, through Nov. 6.

"Rather than simply record a particular image or location, I prefer to give my impressions of this space," said Baart, a graduate and retired faculty member of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

"Literal depictions would, for me, leave out much of what I find mysterious and elusive about the natural world and my relationship to it."

"Paintings and Drawings" is on display Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (617) 566-5715 or go here..
