Film director Jonathan Demme, who will be in town to receive the Coolidge Award from the Coolidge Corner Theatre, will introduce his film ‘‘The Agronomist,’’ which focuses on Haitian human-rights activist Jean Dominique, on March 1 at 2 p.m.

All proceeds from the event’s $25 fee will benefit Partners in Health, a medical charity that has been working in Haiti for two decades.

To encourage early ticket sales, theater supporters have announced they will give $3,500 to Partners in Health’s earthquake relief efforts if 140 tickets are sold by next Sunday.

The annual Coolidge Award is given to an individual whose work advances original and challenging filmmaking. Demme has agreed to remain in Brookline for a series of events and film screenings, culminating with the presentation of the seventh annual Coolidge Award on March 2.
