Brookline Police Officer Scott Seto has been released on his own recognizance after he pleaded not guilty to charges that he assaulted a woman while he was on the job.

Seto, 52, of Waltham, was in Dedham District Court this morning to be arraigned on two counts of indecent assault and two counts of assault and battery after police said he pressed his crotch against a woman’s buttocks, hugged her and tried to kiss her at her apartment May 2.

Tom Dreschler, the attorney representing Seto, said his client denies assaulting the woman. Dreschler said the Brookline Police Department has placed Seto, a 24-year veteran on paid administrative leave, and Seto was ordered by the court Wednesday to stay away from the police station and the victim.

Seto is due back in court June 30.
