Cops: man prostituted special needs woman to between five and 10 men for drugs
Police arrested a Brookline man Monday night on multiple charges including rape after he allegedly arranged sex between a special needs woman and between five to 10 men in exchange for money to buy drugs.
While the men were having sex with the woman, police said Lawrence Allan Bloom, 53, allegedly watched or kept a short distance to make sure the woman did everything right.
Bloom was arrested in his Longwood Avenue apartment Monday night, and Brookline and Chelsea Police are also looking for a second man, Raphael Gonzales, 58, of Chelsea, on charges that he conspired with Bloom to prostitute the woman out for money to buy cocaine.
Brookline Police Lt. Phil Harrington said the two men came up with the idea June 24 in Bloom’s apartment and then went to Gonzales’s apartment on Beacon Street in Chelsea, where the woman had sex with between five and 10 men.
The woman, whose name has not been released, along with her father reported the incident to Brookline Police on July 15.
According to a police report, Bloom introduced the woman to cocaine earlier this year, and he then began making her have sex with him in trade for more crack.
Harrington said that on June 24 Bloom and Gonzales had the idea to prostitute the woman out to get money for cocaine. Police said the three traveled by public transportation from Brookline to Gonzales’s apartment and in the next 24 hours Bloom and Gonzales brought between five and 10 men to have intercourse and oral sex with the woman. In one instance, the woman solicited a man on the street while Gonzales watched, police said.
The woman told police that Gonzales handled the money and she heard the amount of $80 being discussed. She said she did not receive any of the money.
The woman was reported missing June 25 and located by police on June 26 while walking towards her home with Bloom and Gonzales.
Brookline Police charged Bloom with raping the woman, but Harrington would not elaborate about the reason behind the charge other than saying Bloom had intercourse with the woman.
Police have also charged Bloom with deriving and conspiracy to derive support from the earnings of a prostitute, distribution of cocaine and marijuana, and allowing his premise to be used for prostitution.
He was held on $10,000 bail after being arraigned in Dedham District Court Tuesday. A Power outage in Brookline District Court forced the arraignment to be moved to Dedham. Bloom is due back in Brookline District Court Aug. 18.
